Social Security Disability (SSD)
Are you eligible for Social Security Disability? Call Betsy Ballard of The Bryant Law Firm for a free consultation.

Social Security benefits are for those people who have reached a point in their life where they are unable to work due to either physical or mental disability.
There are two types of programs offered, Social Security Disability (SSDI) which calculates your eligibility based on how much you have paid into the system and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) which is a needs based claim.
To qualify for either program, a five step process is used:
1. Are you still working?
- If you are working in 2022 and your earnings average more than $1,350 a month, you generally cannot be considered to have a qualifying disability.
2. Is your condition severe?
- Your condition must significantly limit your ability to do basic work-related activities, for at least 12 months.
3. Is your disability found in a list of disabling conditions?
- For each of the major body systems, Social Security has a list of medical conditions considered severe enough to prevent a person from working. If your condition is not on the list, it must be as severe as a medical condition that is on the list.
4. Can you perform any of the work you have done in the past 15 years?
- Does your medical impairment(s) prevents you from performing any of your past work.
5. Can you perform any other type of work?
- If you can’t do the work you did in the past, is there is other work you could do despite your medical impairment(s). This does not have to be work comparable to your past work.
